The Services to Youth committee is focused on students’ academic successes and healthy engagement in our service area. Our primary goal is to prepare youth to be impactful members of today’s global society. We accomplish this by exposing the students to a number of challenging and enriching activities. Our intent is to motivate children of color to choose careers in STE(A)M or WildSTEM professions, as well as empower them to become groundbreaking leaders who are able to impact the world positively. The goals of the Services to Youth committee are to:
Expose girls to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) based careers in which there is an underrepresentation of women of color.
Host S.T.E.A.M P.L.U.S, Pathway to A Lifetime of Unlimited Success Seminars which exposes middle and high school students to STE(A)M careers, college prep strategies, and fosters mentorship via job shadowing, internships, and employment opportunities with our community partners.
Charter LINKS - National Society of Black Engineers Jr (NSBE Jr.) chapters which support programming and provide a vehicle for leadership development for 3rd - 12th grade students.
Promote WildSTEM programs which increase the racial, socioeconomic, and gender diverse representation in career fields that are dedicated to the study of environmentally- focused, nature-based, and socially-minded STEM fields Promote the integration of the arts (STEM To STEAM).
Establish STE(A)M libraries in elementary and middle schools within our service area
Establish partnerships with community stakeholders with the intention of gathering mentorship opportunities and promoting program sustainability.
Assist Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in their efforts to recruit students by partnering with other organizations to host HBCU college fairs and other events.
